It still remains one of the biggest debates in football: who was the better player - Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard?

To this day, a definitive answer has yet to be agreed upon. For every person who thinks Frank Lampard was the best thing since sliced bread, another disagrees and claims Paul Scholes was the real midfield maestro.

Then another person chips in as to why Steven Gerrard was the better player. IT NEVER ENDS.

Until now, that is. SPORTbible decided to give you the opportunity to vote for who was the better player and 38% reckon that Manchester United legend Paul Scholes was the main man.

Over 28,000 people voted in the online Twitter poll, with former Liverpool man Steven Gerrard coming in second with 36%.

Frank Lampard, who was arguably the best goalscorer out of the three, came in third place with a disappointing 26% of the vote.

For a number of different reasons, these three sublime individuals didn't exactly live up to expectation during their time in the England national side.

But the famous trio of Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are still regarded as three of the biggest talents in Premier League history.

Both Sir Alex and Jose Mourinho wanted Gerrard in their respected midfield when they had Scholes and Lampard in their team, which for some, ends the argument.

But when push comes to squeeze, who does Rio Ferdinand think was the better player?

Ferdinand played with Scholes during his 12 year spell at Old Trafford, while he spent years with Lampard and Gerrard during his international career.

During a chat with BT Sport, Ferdinand came up with the perfect response after the trio were asked to settle the argument once and for all. Who was the best: Scholes, Gerrard or Lampard.

"All of them would have said themselves." Ferdinand said.

"And that's what top players do. They back themselves in these situations and each of them would have had an argument to suggest themselves."

Ferdinand also mentioned that England shouldn't have played Scholes on the left wing, and suggests that the national team should have played a diamond formation, including Scholes, Gerrard and Lampard.

As you can see in the footage above, Gerrard's honest answer of "I'm going to say me, aren't I?" was greeted with a laugh from Frank, who then said "I'm not going to say not me now, am I?"

Jake Humphrey, on the other hand, ended the segment by saying the answer was Paul Scholes.
