The La Liga Twitter account has had a complete horror show after mistakenly using a picture of Nelson Semedo in a tweet about Ansu Fati.

The English account for the Spanish league has since pulled the tweet, but that was before eagle-eyed fans screenshotted the shocking error.

La Liga wrote in the now-deleted tweet: "Even @ANSUFATI can't believe that he is making history in #LaLigaSantander."

But the Twitter account was left red-faced after adding in an image of Barcelona right-back Semedo instead of wonderkid Fati.

Fans are also baffled at how the mistake could have been made, with one Reddit user claiming that the tweet was 'still up after two hours' it was posted.

Other fans have flocked to Twitter and called out La Liga on their mistake.

Fati, 17, produced a stunning performance last Sunday as he scored a minute apart to seal a 2-1 win for Barcelona over Levante.

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi set up the youngster with a sublime assist to open the scoring in the first half.

And the 32-year-old Argentine superstar once again linked up with Fati a minute later and the highly-rated winger slotted in his second on the night.

Fati told reporters after the match that it was a "dream to play alongside" six-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi.

"This is all a dream," he said.

"I dreamed of moments like this and I want to thank my teammates and my coach for giving me another opportunity.

"It's not easy to come into a team like this as a young boy but I'm very grateful for the support I've had.

"I've still got a lot more to come, I like playing with Messi -- it's a dream to play alongside him -- but I want to continue fighting for my place."
