Bad news for Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean suffered a hamstring injury on Thursday in training and he's now set to face a lengthy spell on the sideline as a result.

Jose Mourinho has confirmed he'll be out 'for a long time' in his pre-match press conference.

"The first thing I can say is that in every other club when a player is not playing it's a simple manager's decision," Mourinho said.

"In our club, when a player doesn't play, it's always [reported that it's] because the player isn't behaving and has disciplinary issues. Of course that's not the case again.

"He has an important injury. I don't want to risk by saying for how long [he will be out] but from the top of my experience, I would say he's not playing [again] this year."

Sanchez came off the bench in recent Premier League fixtures against Manchester City and Crystal Palace. He's now set to miss the rest of December's games including United's hectic Christmas schedule.

Meanwhile, Manchester United resume their league campaign this weekend away at Southampton.
