Istanbul Derby Abandoned After A Missile Hits Manager During Brawl Between Players And Fans

Besiktas manager Senol Gunes has been hit by a unidentified object which was thrown from the stands during the Istanbul derby this evening, which resulted in the match being abandoned after 58 minutes,

Gunes was taken to hospital on a stretcher after he suffered a deep cut to his head which required five stitches.

His assistant, Erdinc Gultekin, was also left with a head injury after a tunnel bust-up between players and fans.

Riot police arrived on the scene and had to stop violence between fans as the scenes suddenly became very ugly.

The Mirror report that The Turkish FA will decide when the match should be played again, with suggestions that it could be played behind closed doors emerging.
