Paul Pogba is a player who has divided opinion since his return to Manchester United in 2016.

Since his £89 million return to Old Trafford from Juventus, the Frenchman has shown glimpses of his immense talent, but not consistently.

The 25-year-old won the World Cup with France in the summer, but any Premier League fan could tell you that the midfielder has yet to reach those level of performances this season.

The former Juve man came off with twenty minutes to go during United's 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace at the weekend and saw himself start the midweek Champions League tie vs Young Boys on the bench.

The Frenchman has been known to overindulge in aspects of his play, with tricks and flicks being mainstays of his game. And Ander Herrera has had to come out and defend himself from calling Pogba 'useless'.

The Spaniard uploaded a video on Twitter and Instagram of himself performing a few tricks before slotting the ball home in a training session.

A fan commented: "Why don't you do this in matches?"Herrera's response was, "Because unless you are a striker or a winger... that's absolutely useless."

One user immediately linked this to Paul Pogba, replying, "Did you just call Paul Pogba useless?"

Herrera leapt to his teammates defence, calling his midfield compatriot one of the best midfielders in the world.

"Never! In terms of qualities and possibilities, he is the best midfielder in the world by far," Herrera said."He is probably the only one that can do that being effective for the team."

Pogba missed the last international break through injury and did not look his best against Palace at the weekend, but the Daily Mail have reported that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff were shocked at the midfielder's performance.

Pogba's second half appearance in the week proved to be far more fruitful, as United went on to beat Young Boys 1-0 following a last minute Marouane Fellaini winner, in a game which will be remembered more for Mourinho's celebration.

Despite Herrera's belief that Pogba is one of the world's best, it's not helped United's Premier League season as they sit seventh in the league table after enduring their worst start in 28 years.

United fans will be hoping Pogba can get back to his best and fire The Red Devils back up the Premier League table.
