Chelsea's Eden Hazard Names Two Players Who Deserve To Win Ballon d'Or More Than Him

He's ruled himself out of winning the Ballon d'Or.

Eden Hazard doesn't reckon he deserves the Ballon d'Or, and he's named two players more deserving of the prestigious award.

Hazard, 27, has enjoyed a prolific start to the new Premier League campaign, weighing in with assists and goals.

It precedes a superb World Cup venture with Belgium. He captained his national team to their best ever finish at a World Cup - third place.

But, despite his brilliant year, Hazard has ruled himself out of the running for the Ballon d'Or.

"Even though I had a very good year, I have to keep my feet on the ground," he said.

"I do not deserve the Ballon d'Or. I think there are players who have been better than me. Winning the Ballon d'Or is not a goal for me. If I win it one day, great. If I do not, it won't be a problem."

Who does Hazard like for the Ballon d'Or? Luka Modric and Kylian Mbappe.

"I would have said Luka Modric but he has played a little less well since August and September.

"So, if we take into account the beginning of the season, I would say Kylian Mbappe," he added.

Edinson Cavani, however, feels Modric should not win it.

"[Raphael] Varane may well be up there. [Antoine] Griezmann, Mbappé," the Paris Saint-Germain striker told AS.

Before explaining how a Frenchman should win it, identifying Raphael Varane as a more rightful winner.

"For me, a Frenchman should win it. There are other players, but it should be a Frenchman; they've won big things. It should be one of those three," Cavani added.

"[Luka] Modric? He had a great season, but Varane won the Champions League and the World Cup. Modric was a finalist [at Russia 2018] and had a great season, but Varane deserves it more."
