Antoine Griezmann found himself at the centre of a racism storm on Sunday evening after he posted a picture of himself in a controversial fancy dress outfit.

The Atletico Madrid and France forward took to Twitter to share his outfit of choice for an '80s themed party he was attending, only to reveal that he had not only opted for black face, but to paint his entire body black as well and top it off with an afro wig in an attempt to look like an NBA player.

Naturally, the outfit choice instantly generated a ton of backlash on social media.

Griezmann has since deleted the post and tweeted apologising for any offence caused. The message translates as: "I agree that it's awkward for me. If I hurt some people excuse me."

But before that, Griezmann responded to the criticism with a follow up post, saying, "Calm down guys, I'm fan of the Harlem globetrotters and the good times... it's a tribute".

The above post was deleted, and the apology soon followed.

I think it's fair to say the 'calm down' tweet didn't exactly go down well with social media.
