Rossi has denied using eye drops in the past, but it looks like he could receive a ban, with the Italy's anti-doping requesting a year long ban, report Gazzetta dello Sport
The 31-year-old is currently a free agent after Genoa decided to let him leave at the end of last season after his contract expired, as the failed test looms over his career.
The incident happened before Genoa's away tie against Benevento back in May, when Rossi was found with the anti-glaucoma agent known as dorzolamidein his system after a routine test.
Rossi's career began so brightly, making a name for himself at Manchester United before injuries blighted his time at Old Trafford.
