Just hours after it emerged that Jamie Carragher would not appear on MNF this evening after he spat towards a father and his 14-year-old daughter, Gary Lineker has joked about the incident on social media.

Lineker later backed Carragher after he apologised for his actions on numerous occasions on television, but it seems several people took the first tweet seriously, including Sky reporter Geoff Shreeves.

The Match of the Day presenter and former Barcelona striker wrote: "Seems @Carra23 can't do it on a cold, damp Monday night at Stoke."

Sky reporter Geoff Shreeves soon commented on the tweet and it doesn't look like he was too happy about Lineker's post.

He replied: "Good luck with your halo. Threw your toys out the pram when @mrjakehumphrey commented on a graphics mistake."

Lineker replied, saying: "You've gone too early with that one. Read next tweet."

But Shreeves was having none of it and said: "No I haven't. Never right and never funny."

Just minutes after posting the joke about Carragher, the 57-year-old admitted that we all mistakes and the former Liverpool defender is 'clearly contrite' about his actions.

"On a serious note, we all make mistakes, @Carra23 made a big one. He's apologised and is clearly contrite. Sure he'll be back soon and rightly so."
