Cristiano Ronaldo's late equaliser for Manchester United in their dramatic 2-2 draw against Atalanta on Tuesday night received a mixed reception from the BT Sport studio.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who has scored or assisted 50 per cent of United's goals since returning to the club, netted a magnificent brace in the Group F clash to save Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side from a European disaster.

And his 91st-minute volley against the Italian side means they are still top of their group with games against Villarreal and Young Boys to play. Where would they be without this man?

Ronaldo's second of the night certainly got former United defender Rio Ferdinand on his feet. "Oh my god," he screamed, pointing at the screen. "This is what he does! It's illegal. Alien!"

Paul Scholes, meanwhile, looked cool, calm and collected. In fact, he barely even celebrated at all as he sat with his hands in his pockets.

You can see the reactions below.

You simply cannot question the impact of Ronaldo since his arrival from Juventus in the summer and after the full-time whistle, Ferdinand praised his former teammate.

"People say he doesn't work hard enough, doesn't close people down, doesn't press, but he does the hardest thing in the game - score goals," he told BT Sport.

"At that critical moment he steps up - in any country, in any stadium, at any time. He just arrives on the biggest occasions and delivers."
