Goalkeeper Tony Breeden stunned Nuneaton Borough fans after his overpowered shot fired over the bar and smashed a light in the stand.

Nuneaton were in action against Stratford Town for their Southern League clash on Saturday.

With the scores deadlocked at 0-0, the Southern League side were presented with a golden opportunity to pull ahead when they were awarded a penalty early in the second half.

But Breeden stepped up and was unable to keep calm under pressure as his effort went well clear of the bar and instead took out a light in the stands.

The Nuneaton shot-stopper spent much of the match playing the sweeper-keeper role and enjoyed brief moments of running down the flanks after racing out of his area.

Breeden's attempt from the spot-kick even led to his side poking fun at him on Twitter.

The club tweeted: "He's missed and has broke the lights in the terrace. What have I just witnessed?"

And the Nuneaton goalkeeper even saw the funny side of the incident and posted a GIF of Homer Simpson slowly moving back into a hedge.

Breeden wasn't left regretting his spot-kick miss as Joel Kettle pounced on a goalkeeping error at the other end of the pitch to tap home the opener.

And Nuneaton were awarded another penalty five minutes from time, with Breeden staying well clear of the spot-kick chance this time around.

Callum Powell stepped up and slotted home Nuneaton's second with a cool finish in the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
