Girlfriend Left Fuming After Partner Travels 660 Miles To Morecambe For Away Day

"Well the missus wasn’t too happy..."

A die-hard Charlton Athletic fan dedicated his Tuesday night to an 11-hour, 660-mile round trip to watch the club's clash against Morecambe in League One - but his girlfriend was far from impressed with the big decision.

Tom Jordan, a 28-year-old traffic controller from Kent, has travelled up and down the country to watch the Addicks. "Charlton means everything to me, to be honest," he told SPORTbible. "I've certainly seen the highest of highs and lowest of lows."

He attended his first game at the age of eight and regularly travels home and away so on Tuesday evening, Tom set off from Kent at 8am to see Johnnie Jackson's team in action. In fact, he booked the day off after Morecambe away because he knew it was "a long old stretch."

Almost three hours after setting off, girlfriend Sash let her feelings known on social media. "I haven't seen him in almost a week," she wrote on Twitter. "This morning he left at 8am as he's travelling 330 miles to Morecambe. He wonders why I'm mad. What do you reckon his priority is?"

It was her first day off in a while, according to Tom.

She posted it because she was "annoyed" but ultimately, it was just a normal tweet to her followers. She even used the hashtag #cafc to get Charlton fans involved but the reaction was unexpected, to say the least.

"Sash doesn't really like football," Tom added. "She doesn't really get what a club means to people like me and the millions of others who support their club home and away.

"And the way work is falling I seem to be going to more games than ever and we hadn't seen each other because of work and other things."

The tweet soon went viral. Sash had to turn off her Twitter notifications because her phone was buzzing constantly. "There were so many mixed reactions," Tom says. "An awful lot of people were calling me a legend but also saying she was the issue."

As hundreds of comments poured in, Tom responded on his own Twitter. "Sounds like a legend."

Then, just before kick-off, the 28-year-old posted a live update from The Mazuma Stadium.

Despite going 2-0 up after goals from Diallang Jaiyesimi and Conor Washington, the away side could only pick up a point against The Shrimps.

That being said, Tom still enjoyed his away day up north and well, Sash has now seen the funny side of it all - although another away trip might be on the horizon.

"I'm going to have to explain carefully with the next away trip to Gateshead on a Friday night in the FA Cup, which is even further than Morecambe!"

The question remains; after everything they've been through in the past few days, would Tom rather go on an away day or spend the evening with his girlfriend?

"Honestly, if you could guarantee me an away day win with a last-minute winner or a night in with Sasha there would only be one winner... the away day."
