Dejan Lovren believes he deserves to be viewed as one of the best defenders in world football.

The 29-year-old helped Liverpool reach the Champions League final, as well as leading Croatia to a World Cup final this summer.

"From my point of view I had people saying I had a difficult season but I don't agree with that", he told beIN Sports.

"I took Liverpool to the final of the Champions League and now with my national team we are in the final. I think people should recognise that I am also one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense."

Despite these bold remarks regarding his own ability, Lovren did not pick up the UEFA Champions League Defender of the Year award on Thursday night. Shock.

Instead the award went to Real Madrid centre-back and Champions League winner, Sergio Ramos, who infamously injured Mohamed Salah in the final.

Los Blancos went on to win the final against Lovren's side and the rest is history, but it seems the Croatian defender is still bitter about what the Spaniard did back in May.

Or maybe he thinks Dejan Lovren should have been the Defender of the Year?

Lovren posted two 'facepalm' emojis in the comments section soon after his win, something that many spotted straight away.

Liverpool's centre-back also provided an opinion that many did get on board with at the time. He said that teammate Luka Modric deserved to win the Ballon d'Or if Croatia beat France in the final, but obviously that didn't happen.

Should Modric win the Balon d'Or? And what are your thoughts on Lovren's reaction to Ramos' win?
