Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale will never touch the La Liga trophy if he leaves Real Madrid this summer. Why? Because La Liga said so.

It has been branded a ridiculous rule, but Spanish tradition states that the silverware isn't presented to the league winners until the start of the following season.

Unlike the Premier League, it means Real Madrid will have to wait some time before getting their hands on the coveted La Liga crown.

As you can imagine, plenty were baffled by the decision, including Real Madrid players Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo,

After a Real Madrid official informed former Tottenham teammates Bale and Modric about the rule shortly after their 2-0 victory over Malaga on Sunday evening, the pair looked shocked by the revelation.

Modric's mouth almost touched the ground and Bale just laughed in disbelief. Bale then approached Cristiano Ronaldo to tell him the bad news.

As you can see in the below footage, he was pretty pissed about the bizarre Spanish tradition, saying: "I know. It's a fucking joke!"

Modric asks the Real Madrid official: 'How do you mean, no? There's not a trophy? Why?'

The Los Blancos representative then replies saying: 'The league hands it over when the next season starts. We celebrate, get stuck in, and that's it. There's no trophy.'

Going back to Sunday's title clincher, Ronaldo and Karim Benzema's goals meant Real have scored in every La Liga game in a season for the first time in their history.

In fact, should Los Blancos breach Juventus' watertight rearguard during the Champions League final in just under two weeks time, they'll have scored in every match this season in all competitions.

Ronaldo and Benzema's goals were also Real's 57th and 58th away goals of the 2016/17 campaign, the Bernabeu club's highest ever total for a single league season.

Rather incredibly, The Portugal captain's opening goal against Malaga means he's now the first ever Los Blancos player to score 40+ goals in seven consecutive seasons.

What a player.
