Football Scores On Teletext Died Six Years Ago Today

Football Scores On Teletext Died Six Years Ago Today

A very sad day.

In the glory days before this internet thing happened and ruined our beloved Teletext, life was relatively simple.

As if my magic, after dialing in 302 or 316 on your vintage TV remote, a selection of scores flashed up and your Saturday afternoon would be sorted. Teletext or Ceefax provided pages for all sorts of things ranging from weather reports to airline flights, but in my household it was strictly football scores.

We'd spend hours waiting for a name to pop up on screen, but when it did - my god. What a feeling.

To the disappointment of millions around the world, however, the last remaining bit of Ceefax technology was switched off last year. I know. Heartbreaking.

For 38 years this simple but effective piece of technology has informed and entertained, but we must say goodbye.

We said Goodbye to the ever-reliable daily transfer rumours. I mean, the teletext information service was a world first when it launched in 1974, so to see it leave like that was rather emotional.

Everybody clearly misses the classic 302 page, so why not bring it back?

Bring it back!
