Chelsea defender Reece James is understandably angry and disappointed after thieves broke into his car when he was serving food to hungry children.

The 21-year-old is currently working with the Felix Project in an attempt to raise £100,000 for over half a million meals and this week, he spread some joy in the community by handing out food to the younger generation.

It was a rewarding experience for James but as he returned to his car to pick up presents he was planning to hand out afterwards, he found the window of his Mercedes G-Wagon had been smashed.

Thieves then proceeded to steal the gifts.

In a post on his Instagram story, James revealed his disappointment at the scene.

"Another rewarding experience with the Felix Project today serving meals to the younger generation." he wrote. "Hopefully we spread some joy ahead of a challenging Christmas period.

"Unfortunately, I was met with huge disappointment when returning to my car. During the event, someone felt the need to break in and steal gifts that I was due to go and donate later in the day.

"What goes around comes around."

James has recently called on the public to try and put an end to the food poverty crisis.

"Seeing all the stuff on the news about kids going hungry is breaking my heart." he said on his Instagram page.

"I've set up this page to help raise money for London charity @thefelixproject so they can get more food to hungry children and people who are struggling right now. No one should experience this. So please let's all come together and create something special for all the people suffering.

"The Felix Project do great work in London. They've done a lot of good stuff in Chelsea and all over - I was out with them last week helping to deliver crates of food.

"Every £10 donated will deliver food for 61 meals. We all need to come together to stop child hunger! I'm setting a target of £100,000 which is equivalent to 610,000 meals - and I'm kicking it off with my own donation. I know we can smash this.

"Please help if you can, it's for a great cause! No child deserves to go to bed hungry. The Donation link is in my bio. I love you all, have a great day!
