Back in 1985, a legislation was introduced prohibiting fans from consuming alcohol while watching football from the stands, but a number of Football League clubs want the ban to be lifted in a huge bid.

It has been revealed that Accrington Stanley, Port Vale, Forest Green Rovers, Sunderland, Ipswich Town, Doncaster Rovers, Lincoln City, Tranmere Rovers and Northampton Town want the law changed, according to TalkSPORT.

While other Football League clubs Grimsby Town, Newport County and Gillingham are open to discussion about the subject.

These clubs believe that the change of law would result in a fair treatment for football fans, a better matchday experience for supporters and less binge drinking before matches and during half time.

It was also help Increase revenue for the above clubs, claim the report.

Football Supporters Federation caseworker Amanda Jacks believes that 'nobody thought them through properly' when the rules was introduced in 1985.

"When the laws were drafted they were a knee-jerk reaction to problems at the time. Nobody thought them through properly and certainly didn't foresee that in 2018 we would be talking about football fans being singled out from the rest of society."

Football fans were allowed to drink at the 2018 World Cup and little to no problems came of the decision.

Before the competition's opening game, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko confirmed that fans will be able to get a beer just fine at official World Cup events.

"This will be not only at stadiums but also in fan zones," said Deputy Prime Minister Mutko.

The official beers of the World Cup - which took place in 11 cities and 12 stadiums - was Budweiser and the Russian beer Klinskoye.

For one half a litre bottle of beer it cost punters around 72p, whereas a pint in many places cost 89p.

Yeah we can't promise those sorts of prices in the Football League, that's for sure.
