Remember when Louis van Gaal's Manchester United splashed £31 million on 'the next big thing' Memphis Depay and everybody thought it was one of the signings of the decade?

Many, including Cristiano Ronaldo himself, touted the young winger to become a star at Old Trafford, but the 21-year-old failed to make an impact at Manchester United after two disappointing seasons.

In 2015, the four time Ballon d'Or winner suggested five players that were destined for greatness and looking back, some of his choices have failed to live up to the high expectations, with Memphis being a standout name in the list.

Then again, the likes of Eden Hazard, Paul Pogba and Neymar have gone on to bigger and better things with their respected clubs.

Cristiano mentioned the above while talking about the best young players in world football, saying: "You see many players with potential, I will mention Martin Odegaard of Madrid for example, at 16 he's still young but you can see he's a very good player."

Ronaldo went onto praise Hazard, Pogba and Neymar, as well as Manchester United flop Memphis Depay, who is now flourishing in Ligue 1 with Lyon:

"Hazard is also another example, the No7 of Manchester Depay is a good player too, Pogba and maybe Neymar." he told BT Sport.

Here is the brilliant interview with Ronaldo, as he talks Lionel Messi, Jose Mourinho and more:

It's common knowledge that Ronaldo has good relations with PSG winger Neymar, and before his move to the Ligue 1 side, the Ballon d'Or holder gave him a piece of advice, according to Diario Gol.

The report says that the former Manchester United winger whatsapped Neymar to tell him to either stay at the Camp Nou or, if he's really desperate for a move, to wait until Manchester United come for him.

The 32 year old obviously thought that Ligue 1 would be a backward step and only a move to his former club would help push him into a superstar on his level, but Neymar chose to ignore his advice.
