An extended version of Donny van de Beek's reaction to not being brought on during the club's Champions League win against Villarreal has emerged online - and it speaks volumes of his frustrations at Old Trafford.

The Dutch midfielder struggled to make an impact in his first season at the club after joining from Ajax in a reported £35 million deal.

In total, Van de Beek has made just four Premier League starts since penning a five-year deal with the Reds. In fact, he has made just one appearance in the league this season; an impressive 15-minute cameo against Newcastle.

After coming on and impressing in United's 4-1 win against The Magpies at Old Trafford, the 24-year-old was promised more minutes by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"Donny [van de Beek] had his first taste of minutes with a crowd - what Man United [really] feels like," the Norwegian said. "He keeps working hard, he's such a professional and top lad and he'll get his minutes."

Three weeks later and, despite picking up minutes against West Ham and Young Boys in September, Van de Beek is clearly frustrated with a lack of chances in the first-team, as spotted by many fans during their clash against Villarreal.

With the game all square at 1-1 on Wednesday night, Solskjaer decided against using the Dutch midfielder late on, opting for Fred and the in-form Jesse Lingard instead.

Van de Beek's reaction to being snubbed by his manager was then spotted by many. He was seen throwing his chewing gum to the ground before nodding his head in disapproval.

Now, two days after the incident, fan footage has emerged showing an extended version of the incident.

As you can see in the clip above, a devastated Van de Beek throws his bib to the floor before making his way to the bench, where he is consoled by two teammates.

Minutes later, Solskjaer's bold decision paid off when Jesse Lingard assisted Cristiano Ronaldo's late winner with a vital touch.

But days after picking up a huge three points against Villarreal, a big talking point surrounding the game continues to be Van de Beek's lack of action - and frustration - during the Champions League clash.

Back in August, Rio Ferdinand said he feared Van de Beek would not get his chance to shine at Old Trafford in the coming months.

"Donny van de Beek, he's not going to get a chance in this team is he? £40million and he ain't going to play," Ferdinand told his YouTube channel FIVE.

"Anyone coming in under Ole is an Ole signing. You give him the credit for the players who come in and do well, and you've got to take [criticism].

"I'm not one of those people who think every signing is going to be great. You are going to get them wrong, Fergie got them wrong.

"It's inevitable when you sign so many players that you get one or two wrong. Van De Beek, you don't know if he's wrong or right because he doesn't get the opportunity. That's the problem."

Thoughts on Van de Beek's situation? Does he deserve more game time?
