Donny Van De Beek Told He Has Made Huge Mistake Joining Manchester United By Marco Van Basten

Donny Van De Beek Told He Has Made Huge Mistake Joining Manchester United By Marco Van Basten

Dutch legend Marco van Basten has slammed Donny van de Beek's decision to join Manchester United in a remarkable outburst.

The 23-year-old completed a £35 million move from Ajax in the summer window but since, the midfielder has been restricted to a handful of starts under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, spending the majority of his time watching from the bench.

In fact, Van de Beek has made just two starts for United since arriving, with both of those coming in the Carabao Cup against Luton Town and Brighton.

Despite scoring just 15 minutes into his debut in United's opening day defeat to Crystal Palace, it has been a frustrating start to life at Old Trafford, although Solskjaer has stressed that his time will come.

But those assurances are not enough for the great Marco van Basten, who has questioned Van de Beek's decision to join the Premier League outfit.

"It is very bad for such a boy to only play six or seven times in a year," Van Basten told Ziggo Sport.

"That's terrible for your rhythm! You can earn a lot more, but you also have to see where you can play.

"Is it about a five-year contract that he can sign? No, that's bullshit. Then you shouldn't go to Manchester United, but wait with it or for another club. You have to want to play football every week, and such a club is then bad for your career."

Patrice Evra has also hit out at the signing of Van de Beek and believes the midfielder is "not needed" at the club.

"I have nothing against the kid, but why did we buy Van de Beek?

"He's watching the game from the stands every game because we don't need him. That's the truth, but people will not say it loud."

As mentioned earlier, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has promised that the Dutchman will get game time.

"He'll get his game time. He's been fantastic in the group." the Norwegian told reporters earlier this month.

"I think you see today and in training, he's so neat and tidy, I don't think he lost the ball once.

"It's about finding the balance in the team. We've won 4-1 today and you're asking why I didn't start one of the players. He'll have a very good impact on the team."

Thoughts on the signing of Van de Beek?
