Jamie Redknapp Claims Frenkie De Jong Is The 'Best Midfielder In The World Right Now'

Barcelona-bound Frenkie de Jong has a big fan in Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, who compared the Ajax star to Real Madrid’s Luka Modrić.

Jamie Redknapp showed how highly he rates Frenkie de Jong after claiming that he is the "best midfielder in the world right now."

The 45-year-old Sky Sports pundit made the admission ahead of England's Nations League semi-final clash against the Netherlands.

"For me, he's the best midfielder in the world right now," he said.

"He's like Luka Modrić, he makes everyone around him look good. I'm such a fan. I think he's got everything."

Redknapp didn't mince his words by suggesting that De Jong is one of the best, but rather putting the bold statement out there.

Unsurprisingly, making such a strong claim has caused quite a stir with fans on social media.

Similar to the ex-Liverpool star, Italian legend Andrea Pirlo said last week that De Jong was one of the best midfielders in the world.

"At the moment, for me, Frenkie de Jong is the best," he explained.

"He has the personality, the technique, everything to play in this position."

The 22-year-old Dutch midfielder has been in scintillating form for Ajax last season, capturing both the Eredivisie title and KNVB Cup.

The Netherlands international will be playing in La Liga next season after signing a five-year deal with Barcelona back in January.
