Former Manchester United assistant manager Steve McClaren has picked up on the body language of a "disappointed" Bruno Fernandes in recent weeks.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have struggled so far this season.

Despite notable wins against PSG and Newcastle this month, the club currently sit in 15th place following defeats to Tottenham and Crystal Palace.

They did manage to grab a point against Frank Lampard's Chelsea at the weekend but during the game, McClaren voiced his concerns about Fernandes in particular.

"I've been watching Bruno Fernandes and he's disappointed." McLaren told talkSPORT.

"He's disappointed because he's been taken out of the middle and he's out on the right-hand side.

"I saw it last week against Newcastle, when he went out wide, and I'm seeing it again now. His body language is not good, he's not getting involved.

"He needs to be in the game and on that right-hand side he's not moving from there, he's got to move from there, he's got to get his head up and get back into the game and affect the game.

"At the moment he's just standing out on the right and he's making it very easy for Ben Chilwell."

At the start of October, Fernandes was taken off at half-time as United lost 6-1 to Spurs at Old Trafford, with reports later claiming the Portuguese international ripped into his teammates and slammed Solskjaer's tactics.

Fernandes, who has been in fine form so far this season, later denied that he had 'fallen out' with Solskjaer after the loss.

The midfielder has also been linked with a shock move away from United in recent weeks, with Real Madrid and Barcelona believed to be those interested in the former Sporting CP player.

McClaren's latest claims may be a cause for concern as United continue to struggle for results on the pitch.
