While N'Golo Kante was playing in France's second tier, a diehard Middlesbrough fan scouted the midfielder and recommended him to the club which even got a response from the club's official Twitter account.

Dennis' tweet from two years ago is suddenly doing the rounds. The Boro fan urged then-manager Tony Mowbray to check out Kante who was plying his trade for Caen.

"Boro scouts: tell Tony #Mowbray to check out #Caen midfielder Ngolo #Kante before #Wenger gets him. Top top player," he wrote back in 2013.

To which Boro replied: "Passed on to our scouts, thanks Dennis."

"That's great. He's an outstanding creative player, winning plaudits from media & players alike," Dennis added.

"Thanks Dennis - they're going to look," they replied.

Should have listened to Dennis, Boro. From Kante to Dean Whitehead.

Of course, Boro failed to sign Kante with Leicester City snapping him up for a measly £5.6 million in 2015 before Chelsea shelled out £32 million to acquire his luxurious services.

He eventually went on to win back-to-back Premier League titles with Leicester then Chelsea as well as the FA Cup and Europa League, not to mention the World Cup with France in 2018.

One that got away...
