Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has fired back at Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke for taunting him over Champions League football.

Watzke aimed a not-so-subtle dig at Aubameyang - suggesting that the Gabon superstar was motivated by money when he left the German club in January 2018.

The Arsenal forward has since took to social media to respond to Watzke's outlandish claim.

"Better for you I never talk about why I really left Dortmund Mr Watzke you such a clown. I remember that time you said we never gonna sell Ousmane then you saw more than 100M you were the first to take that money. Don't talk about money please!!! Leave me alone pls," he wrote on Twitter.

Watzke had claimed Aubameyang's move was based on financial matters.

"Aubameyang, who plays great at Arsenal, will probably be warm-hearted when he looks at his bank account, but on Wednesdays, will be saddened when he has to watch the Champions League on television," he said earlier this week.

"Some [players] go to clubs because of this money, where they have not played Champions League for years."

Aubameyang has scored an impressive 39 Premier League goals since moving to North London, including 22 league goals last season and seven league goals this campaign.

But he has yet to play Champions League football for Arsenal since sealing a then-club record £56 million transfer.

The Gunners, meanwhile, resume their Europa League campaign tonight at home to Standard Liege.
