I realise that, as a football club, you've got a duty to announce any official news that concerns transfers or new contracts, but Arsenal's social media team should have probably just taken the day off, today.
Now, despite recent failures in the Premier League and in Europe, Arsene Wenger is still beloved by large sections of Arsenal supporters, but the growing discontent among fans at the Frenchman's managerial reign has become what is essentially a social media bonfire, with the 'Wenger Out' brigade throwing their furious hot takes on there, every hour of every day.
So, with the news breaking yesterday that Wenger would put pen to paper on a new two-year contract at the Emirates stadium, there wasn't exactly a celebratory mood among Gunners fans.

But, instead of sensing the toxic online backlash, Arsenal's social media team this afternoon have posted a confirmation story about Wenger's new deal on Twitter.
Yes, OK, it's important club news, but it's also important club news that everyone knew already and, let's face it, Twitter's a dark, miserable, fucking place at the best of times. A cynicism rid pit of despair. So maybe, just maybe, the Gunners' Twitter team could have steered clear of anything official and just accepted that fans already knew Wenger was staying for two more years.
