It could have been very different...

It has been revealed that Arsenal enquired about the availability of another Manchester United player during the Alexis Sanchez talks.

Arsene Wenger's side reportedly wanted left-back Luke Shaw as part of a deal, but United turned down the approach and later agreed upon the swap of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

It was originally reported that Arsenal were interested in Anthony Martial, but it seems the Gunners wanted England international Shaw instead, via The Mirror.

Instead, Henrikh Mkhitaryan will move to the Emirates while Alexis Sanchez joins Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

Manchester United's biggest flops...

Shaw's performances of late have clearly impressed Mourinho and as a result, the United manager has publicly praised the left-back in recent weeks.

Back in November last year, Premier League clubs were informed that Shaw would be available for £20 million, according to the Daily Mail, but clearly things have changed since.

To put Shaw's rapid transformation into perspective, the former Southampton youngster looked set for a loan move to Newcastle United last year in a bid to prove that he can still be England's first choice left-back.

Now, the left-back features regularly in Mourinho's starting line-up when fully fit.

Tottenham were also believed to be interested in Shaw, with Danny Rose's future at the North London club still uncertain, but again, a move never materialised.

Would Arsenal fans have taken Luke Shaw? Or have you got a better deal in Mkhitaryan?
