No holding back.

Gerard Pique is a 'second-rate player' who 'wouldn't be well known' if he played for a club like Valencia, according to former Argentina defender Oscar Ruggeri.

The 58-year-old, who made 77 appearances for his country between 1983 and 1994, lifting the World Cup in that time, didn't hold back in his assessment of Pique during an interview with FOX Sports Argentina this week.

"Pique is a second-rate [player], like me, like many others," Ruggeri said.

"He's good looking, he's with the singer [Shakira]...he has a cool beard, but if he played for Valencia, he wouldn't be well known."

Rugerri also claimed Pique's international teammate Sergio Ramos is the best centre-back in the world right now 'by far'.

And it didn't stop there. The former Real Madrid, River Plate and Boca Juniors centre-back continued slating Pique, claiming he is "bang average" like himself.

"Pique ended up playing for Barcelona. He's like me - bang average," he continued.

"A good defender, but not much else. He doesn't get put under pressure, except against the big teams."

Rugerri isn't the only person to think Ramos is a world class defender.

Ahead of the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park in June, Everton forward Richarlison pointed out that Sergio Ramos, Marquinhos, Thiago Silva are all superior to Virgil Van Dijk.

"People talk a lot about him, yes he is a great defender but I've already dribbled past him," Richarlison said in an interview with Desimpedidos, as per The Mirror.

"He was chosen as one of the top three in the world as he had an excellent season. But yes, for me there are better defenders."

"Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Sergio Ramos," he replied when asked to name said defenders.
