Ravel Morrison marked his Derby County debut with an absolute screamer against Salford City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Derby boss Wayne Rooney started Morrison in midfield and the 28-year-old repaid the faith shown in him by his manager by bagging a stunning goal to avoid a big cup upset.

With the Championship side trailing 3-2, the former Manchester United youth star popped up to level the tie in sensational fashion.

Morrison stood over a free-kick from 25 yards out, but hit the wall - though he smashed home on the rebound.

He struck the ball on the half-volley, sending it into the top corner. What a goal.

Needless to say, Morrison's thunderbolt sent social wild.

One tweeted: "It might be early but Ravel Morrison has scored a goal of the season contender."

A second wrote: "The connection was too clean."

A third added: "Big talent that lad hope he takes this chance finally."

His goal proved crucial as Derby went onto beat Salford on penalties (5-3) to book their spot in the next round.

Speaking after the dramatic clash, Rooney admitted he will not be able to keep him at Pride Park if he finds his form.

He said: "If I get the best out of him this season, it'll be very difficult to keep hold of him."

On Derby's situation, the Man United and England legend added: "It's my job to bring some pride and dignity back to this club

"We need help or we won't be able to compete. We need help from inside the club, from outside the club.

"It would be easy for me to walk away because this is not ideal at all. But I've been in some tough moments in my career, on the pitch and off the pitch.

"This is another tough moment."
