Raphael Varane Has Taken A New Iconic Number At Real Madrid

Raphael Varane has taken the number five shirt at Real Madrid for next season, a number previously worn by Los Blancos legends Zinedine Zidane and Fabio Cannavaro.

Quite ironic indeed, considering that current Real boss Zidane had a stellar run wearing No.5 at the Santiago Bernabeu. For Varane to be wearing the same squad number next season, Zidane appears to have plenty of faith in his fellow Frenchman.

The likes of Fernando Gago and Fabio Coentrao have also wore the number five shirt.

In other number changes, right-back Dani Carvajal will wear the No.2 shirt, while Alvaro Morata will wear No.21 in his second spell with the club. Left-back Fabio Coentrao moves to No.15 and winger Lucas Vasquez will now wear No.17.

As for Varane, he's pretty much certain to stay on for next season if his new number change is anything to go by.
