Spain captain Sergio Ramos says he'll "go to Qatar with a grey beard if necessary" after La Roja were dumped out of this year's World Cup by hosts Russia.

After the game finished 1-1 after extra time, Ramos scored his penalty in the shoot-out in Moscow but saw his side lose 4-3 on penalties, resulting in a shock last 16 elimination and ending dreams of replicating their 2010 heroics.

The Real Madrid man was in floods of tears on the pitch and had to be consoled by manager Fernando Hierro as well as several of his teammates. It was a sight that Liverpool fans certainly enjoyed.

However, unlike Andres Iniesta, who has just called time on his international career, Ramos says he won't be retiring and is optimistic of playing in another World Cup.

'F***, it's difficult," Ramos reflected on the disappointing exit, as per the Daily Mail.

"It's so many hours, so much effort and so much dedication. Maybe this wasn't our best moment but we go home without having lost a game.

"I would like to carry on playing [for Spain] for many more years because I'm going home with a terrible pain.

"I'm going to have to go to Qatar with a grey beard if necessary."

Ramos will be 36 by the time the next showpiece rolls around but Mexico's Rafael Marquez, now 39 and turning out for his country in Russia, has proved that age is just a number.

The former Sevilla man also produced a rallying cry of a tweet after the game:

Do you think Ramos will play in another World Cup?
