We'd love to know what Rafael van der Vaart made of Harry Maguire's showing last night.

The Manchester United defender was sent off 31 minutes into the 1-0 defeat to Denmark after being shown two yellow cards, continuing what has been a miserable time for him of late.

Maguire was cautioned seven minutes into the UEFA Nations League game at Wembley for a late challenge on Yussuf Poulsen before another ill-timed follow-through on Kasper Dolberg saw him given his marching orders.

It followed up a disastrous outing for the Manchester United skipper in the 6-1 defeat to Spurs before the international break and has caused Van der Vaart's scathing comments to resurface.

Speaking back in October 2019, the former Spurs midfielder said Maguire wasn't any better than defenders he'd seen at Sunday League.

He also claimed Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is worth โ‚ฌ300 million (ยฃ258 million) based on the England international's world-record ยฃ80 million transfer from Leicester City.

"When I go to see an amateur club on Sunday, I can find 3 players who can play like him," he said on Dutch television during United's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last season.

The Dutchman added: "I mean that. It might be silly to say it but he won't hear it anyway.

"We are talking about a โ‚ฌ90M signing here. Then Van Dijk is worth โ‚ฌ300m."

The 37-year-old went in on Maguire again in July, after seeing him look extremely wobbly in a 5-2 win over Bournemouth.

Nutmegged by Junior Stanislas for the opening goal, his performance prompted Van der Vaart to Maguire goes home and tells his wife, "I'm so sh*t at football but I earn so much".
