PSG Officially Announce Signing Of Gianluigi Buffon In Suave Fashion

Paris Saint-Germain have officially announced the arrival of legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon on a a free transfer.

After arriving for big money from Parma in 2001, Buffon stormed the Serie A, establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers ever to play between the sticks in his 17 years at the Bianconeri.

Having announced he would not be signing a new contract with the club, he finished with a seventh consecutive Scudetto title win, his ninth in total, in what was an emotional send-off off for the Italian.

But instead of retiring from football altogether despite a behind the scenes role being mooted, 'Gigi' has moved on to a new challenge with Ligue One giants PSG, who confirmed his signing with a slick announcement video:

Buffon is now 40 years of age but shows no signs of slowing down, signing a one-year contract upon his lucrative move to the French capital. There is also the option to extend that deal for another 12 months, which would take him beyond his 42nd birthday.

He becomes new manager Thomas Tuchel's first signing and will surely slot straight in as the number one choice at the Parc des Princes.

In signing for PSG, Buffon still has one last chance to finally lift the Champions League trophy that slipped through his grasp on so many occasions during his wonderful stay in Turin.

Reflecting on his decision to move to Paris, he told the official PSG website:

"I know what dreams PSG and its fans have in their hearts. I am going to bring all my energy, all my experience and all of my thirst to win to help my new club achieve all the great objectives it has set out for the future.

"For the first time in my career, I am leaving my country and only a project this ambitious could have encouraged me to make such a decision."
