PSG right-back Serge Aurier has been charged for assaulting a police officer.

The Ivorian is reported to have "insulted and hit a police officer" outside a nightclub back in May, with the allegation being that he elbowed the officer in the throat.

He was reprimanded by Police at the time of the incident and has now been charged, sentenced to jail for two months and hit with a €2,100 fine.

However, the player will not be serving any time in prison. He will be appealing the decision.

French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi confirmed that the sentence for Aurier is "convertible".

Aurier is no stranger to controversy; he was suspended by PSG at the start of the year for calling then manager Laurent Blanc a "faggot" in a video that emerged online.

According to Le Parisien, the 23-year old was handed a three-month suspended sentence earlier this year for driving without a licence.

PSG have since issued a statement on the news, saying that "the player is presumed innocent pending the decision of the Appeal Court"

They added:

"In addition, the Club wishes to stress the professional attitude of the player since his return to training on July 4. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain reaffirms its commitment to respect for the security forces and their missions."
