He may not be the most well liked player among England fans, but Raheem Sterling does having the backing of a Premier League legend.

The Manchester City winger has endured two miserable performances, against Russia and Wales, at Euro 2016, so far which have led to widespread criticism from England supporters, some of whom have even started crowdfunding to bring him home from France, as a result.

But Thierry Henry, who has been serving as a pundit for the BBC during the Euros, believes England fans need to get off Sterling's back, as he's only young and needs to be given more time to develop as a player.

Speaking to BBC 5 Live, Henry said, "Raheem Sterling has a great future but he is not the finished article - people are treating him like he is the finished article."

"I was not the same player when I 27 as I was when I was 20.

"I wasn't that type of player when I was 20. I struggled. I struggled with life and I struggled with everything and it's a normal thing.

"I think it's a bit unfair in a way as he didn't say 'buy me for that type of money'. He's a good player, let's see."

It's debatable whether we'll see much of Sterling for the remainder of the tournament, given how impressive substitutes Jamie Vardy, Daniel Sturridge and Marcus Rashford were against Wales, on Thursday. The £49m man may find himself reduced to a bench role for England's next matches.
