Kevin De Bruyne has been voted by fans as the player who should be named the Premier League Player of the Season.

The 28-year-old Manchester City playmaker has remained in scintillating form for his club this season, despite Liverpool's incredible success in their title challenge.

De Bruyne has made 32 appearances across all competitions and assisted an impressive 19 times, along with scoring eight times for City.

With over 200,000 votes cast, the Belgium international took home 35 per cent share of the final vote in Sky Sports' poll.

Liverpool star Sadio Mane finished behind De Bruyne with 28 per cent of the vote, while Reds captain Jordan Henderson came third with a 21 per cent vote share.

Virgil van Dijk, who won the award last season, came in last place with only 15 per cent of the vote.

De Bruyne put in a strong showing for City on Wednesday as Pep Guardiola's men secured a 2-0 victory over West Ham.

The Belgian midfielder set up Rodri for City's opener in the first half before adding his side's second in the second half.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has argued that De Bruyne deserves to win Player of the Season and is the "best player in the country right now by a mile."

The 46-year-old explained: "When he's on the pitch he's head and shoulders above anyone else. I didn't think Silva could be beat but KDB is taking it to the next level.

"It was like he had a force field around him today -- no-one was allowed to tackle him. His passes are always so inviting, cutting open defences.

"It was also what he did without the ball -- his all-round game right now is on another level. He's not in the team of the year but, for me, he's the player of the year.

"The contenders VVD -- amazing season, Henderson -- big fan, even Mane -- but look at KDB's numbers -- 20 assists -- miles ahead of those around him. He is the best player in the country right now by a mile."
