The La Liga mustered up a slew of intriguing results as the competition between Real Madrid and Barcelona hots up. Both teams were victorious but Real's dramatic win left Gerard Pique ruing at their help in hand from the officials.

Earlier in the day, Lionel Messi kept his side firmly in the title race by bagging a 86th minute winner while scoring his 22nd goal in 22 league games against Atletico Madrid.

Barca turned up the heat as they momentarily sat top of the pile ahead of Real's visit to the El Madrigal. Though 'Zizou's' charges regained their position at the summit but largely down to some fortunate officiating.

Real clawed their way back from 2-down to eventually secure all three points by claiming a 3-2 victory - thanks to goals from Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo (pen) and Alvaro Morata.

But they can count themselves somewhat fortunate to have escaped with the win. The main takeaway from the game was the contentious award of the penalty conceded by Bruno Soriano.

Soraino was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box, sparking debate on social media including the ever-vocal Pique who took to Twitter to share his thoughts. And he wasn't happy:

Article 1 - Gerard Pique's disallowed goal for Barcelona against Malaga in the 0-0 draw earlier in the season.

Article 2 - Sergio Ramos' goal against Malaga as they won the game 2-1.

Article 3 - Barca's draw with Villarreal which highlights the lack of penalty for a clear handball.

Article 4 - From last nights fixture questioning the debatable spot-kick.

Sergio Ramos has already responded to the accusations saying the following;

"I would be surprised if it would be [Lionel] Messi [to write the tweet]. We already know about Pique's world, where everything's a plot against him. The referees have a difficult job, we have to try and make them more comfortable.

Referees sometimes give you and others take away, but you have to be prepared for everything. We are not going to get into these issues because it will not change anything, the three points will be added and we will continue to be first."
