Pep Guardiola has admitted that he 'doesn't know' if Manchester City will snap up Lionel Messi in 2021 on a free transfer after failing to land him this summer.
Messi, 33, sent shockwaves throughout the footballing world after he demanded that Barcelona allow him to leave the Camp Nou.

However, Messi would make a shock U-turn earlier this month as he refused to take the Spanish club to court over his contract release clause.
Speaking ahead of City's clash with Wolves on Monday, Guardiola insisted that he doesn't "have to explain anything" over Messi not moving to the Premier League club.
The 49-year-old Spaniard explained during a news conference: "I think I don't have to explain anything.

"Leo explained quite well his feelings, I don't have anything to add. He's a football player for FC Barcelona, the club I love, and there is nothing more to say."
Messi, whose current Barcelona deal will expire next summer, will turn 34 by the time City have the potential option to sign the six-time Ballon d'Or winner.
When Guardiola was asked if City would pursue the Barca captain next summer, he responded: "I don't know. It's a question for Leo Messi. I cannot talk about the intentions of other people."

City have strengthened their squad this summer with the additions of Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake as Guardiola's side attempts to dethrone defending champions Liverpool.
Guardiola insisted that he is "more than satisfied" with the business City have done in the summer, despite the club still having the option to bring in new players before the window shuts.

"I'm more than satisfied with what I've had and I know the club does everything to do their best, not just for me [but] for the team," he said.
"If we have to stay with the players, I'll be happy. I've never before or in the future will I complain. I'm lucky to have these players and that's all."
