As if Paul Pogba being suspended for this Sunday's Manchester derby wasn't bad enough news for Manchester United, the French midfielder may now miss even more playing time than the three games he was originally suspended for.

Pogba received his marching orders in the 74th minute of United's 3-1 victory over Arsenal on Saturday, after a clumsy challenge on Hector Bellerin.

It was an unfortunate end to another sterling display from the 24-year-old, who had assisted two of United's three goals on Saturday evening as his impressive form this season continued.

The red card rules the Frenchman out of this Sunday's crucial top of the table clash with Manchester City as well as the following league games against Bournemouth and West Bromwich Albion.

But it could get even worse for Pogba.

The former Juventus man was seen to be sarcastically applauding referee Andre Marriner as he left the field, which could now lead to retrospective action from the Football Association based on whether or not Marriner included the incident in his match report.

If the clapping is deemed to have been sarcastic and a direct gesture made towards the referee's decision, it could be that Pogba is in breach of FA rules and could face further punishment, which may even mean an increased ban.

After Saturday's game, Jose Mourinho defended his player despite the sending off, saying in his post-match press conference, "Paul is very frustrated because everyone know he is a clean player and it was not his intention to be close to a red card."
