Mikael Silvestre admitted the frustration with Paul Pogba came down to the Man United star not reaching his "levels week-in, week-out."

Former Manchester United star Mikael Silvestre has called into question Paul Pogba's lack of "consistency," despite labelling him a "world-class player."

France narrowly topped Group F at Euro 2020 ahead of Germany and Portugal, with their hit-and-miss form in their opening three matches raising eyebrows.

Didier Deschamps' men defeated Germany 1-0 at the Allianz Arena before salvaging a 1-1 draw against Hungary at the Puskas Arena.

France then secured an enthralling 2-2 draw against 2016 European champions Portugal at the Puskas Arena on Wednesday.

While the 2018 World Cup winners have failed to perform at their best, Pogba has been in scintillating form in the France midfield.

The 28-year-old United superstar delivered a masterclass midfield performance against Portugal, which included a superb defence-splitting assist for Karim Benzema's second of the match.

Pogba also showcased his midfield brilliance against Germany as he dominated in the middle of the park and performed at his best against the likes of Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gundogan.

Silvestre praised his fellow countryman by admitting that he has "world-class attributes for sure."

However, the 43-year-old ex-United defender identified his main "problem" with Pogba is his lack of consistency.

Silvestre told Ladbrokes: "The problem with Paul Pogba is the consistency -- or lack of.

"When he's at the top of this game, his level is something else, but he finds it difficult to repeat that game after game.

"I look at it this way; he's a world-class player, he's got world-class attributes for sure. The question is, can he repeat it every three days? I'm not sure he can.

"He hasn't done it for Man United, I'm not sure he can do it for France either."

Deschamps will no doubt rely on Pogba to deliver another world-class performance in midfield for France's last-16 clash against Switzerland.

Silvestre insisted that he is "happy" to see Pogba on the pitch playing for his current club or country.

But the former France international admitted the frustration came down to Pogba not reaching his "levels week-in, week-out."

Silvestre continued: "I'm always happy to see him on the pitch for club or country, because he's been unlucky with injuries.

"The frustrating part is that we haven't seen him reach his levels week-in, week-out.

"I don't know whether it's a psychological thing or a physical thing. I'm a Man United supporter and a France supporter, so I'm always hoping that whoever he represents, we see the best of him, because we saw against Germany just how much he can give to the team."

France will clash with Switzerland on 28th June at the National Arena in Bucharest, Romania.
