Another big shout from Merse...

Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson is no stranger to a controversial statement - and he's back with another.

According to the sharp-tongued TV man, Arsenal should make a move for Watford's Abdoulaye Doucoure as he is "much better" than summer signing Lucas Torreira.

The French midfielder has been excellent for The Hornets so far this season. He's pulled-out impressive performances and has since reportedly moved onto the radar of Ligue 1 giants PSG.

But Merson believes he could provide some much-needed cover for a leaky Arsenal side who have conceded by far the most goals out of the current Premier League top five.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said:

"Arsenal are now showing their true colours. Until they sort out the defence, they won't be able to achieve anything."Unai Emery will need a few windows to sort it out but the players they've purchased haven't been great.

"Everyone was raving about Lucas Torreira, but he's not that good. I said this a few months ago and everyone kicked up a stink.

"He only looks good as he's what Arsenal have needed for a long time, someone to run around and put their foot in. But if you put him up for sale tomorrow, none of the top five clubs in the Premier League would be interested."

Arsenal started the season in fine form under new boss Unai Emery, but a few up-and-down results have seen the Gunners fall behind London rivals Spurs and Chelsea - despite beating the latter last weekend.

The former Sevilla and PSG boss will be hoping to strengthen his team this month and insisted the wheels are in motion for a couple of potential signings.

"I don't want to speak about individual players, because I know the club is working," Emery said, per Sky Sports.

"The club is working on the possibility to take some players who can help us during the next four months.

"The club is working with different players. Our message is we only want to sign one or two players, who can help us with performance. The club is working."

Who should Arsenal bring in this transfer window? Let us know in the comments.
