Michael Owen Hilariously Mocked After Congratulatory Tweet To Emma Raducanu

Some of the responses were absolutely brilliant.

Emma Raducanu won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award after a memorable year on the tennis court that saw her become the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam title.

Michael Owen offered his own congratulations by posting a picture of himself winning the same award back in 1998, also at the age of 19.

He said: "Congratulations to [Emma Raducanu] who thoroughly deserves to be crowned Sports Personality of the Year 2021.

"Makes me feel very old that she's the same age as I was waaaaay back in 1998."

The former Liverpool striker burst onto the scene with a wonder goal against Argentina at that year's World Cup, while he also ended the year with the Premier League Golden Boot, scoring 18 goals.

It would be safe to say that Owen's nostalgic tweet was not taken as seriously as he would've liked, with a series of hilarious replies.

One user posted a picture of his dog with the caption: "Congratulations Emma, here's a picture of my dog after winning the first British amateur canine boxing title in 2006."

There was another animal-related tweet by a user who clearly had a hoot winning his own award back in the 1980s, and said: "Congratulations Emma, here's a picture of me winning the best tame tawny owl in Ferndale competition in 1982."

Meanwhile, another hungry-looking fellow replied with: "Well done Emma here's a picture of me eating a sausage roll a few weeks back."

These were amidst hundreds of comments along similar lines, and let's hope Michael laughed just as much as we did!
