Manchester United fans haven't all greeted the news that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed a new contract with celebrations, with one claiming it has 'doomed the club for three years.'

Solskjaer has been in charge of the team since 2018, when Jose Mourinho was sacked, and has been in permanent charge since 2019.

In that time United have improved generally but are yet to win a trophy. They have lost in several semi-finals under their manager and in May lost the Europa League final to Villarreal on penalties.

His deal at Old Trafford was due to expire next summer but on Saturday it was announced the Norwegian has signed a new three year deal to 2024.

The news hasn't gone down well with everyone and one fan called into talkSPORT, claiming that Ole "isn't the right man" for the job.

"This is a bad day for Man United. Not a good day," Lewis called in to say.

"They'll be some 'Ole Ins' out there who thinks this is good news, positive, 'club's going in the right direction.' It's not!

"This is a shocking decision, another bad decision from [Ed] Woodward.

"Ole's not the right man, he hasn't been from the day he walked in. He should've been a caretaker only.
This is not good, we're now doomed for another three years of no trophies, terrible football.

"Everyone seems to have short memories the 'Ole Ins.' The football we played last year was awful.

"Even games we won most of the time it was lucky, it was an own goal we got in the last minute, which we didn't deserve or a lucky penalty in the last minute, which we didn't deserve.

"The football's terrible, the results are terrible, the home form was shocking last season, but everyone forgets all this.

"We lost the final, we should have won that.

"But Ole gets his decisions wrong, makes the same mistakes time and time again, he doesn't learn, the coaching staff don't do anything about it, they're useless as well. In game management, the tactics, the subs, he keeps making the same errors all the time.

"He's not going to improve."

The news came less than 24 hours after United had confirmed that they'd finally signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, after a year's long pursuit.

United are reportedly trying to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, with a fee for the World Cup winner the main sticking point.

Solskjaer will hoping both men can finally end his spell without a trophy at Old Trafford.
