Why A Non-League Club Will Play The Rest Of The Season Without A Goalkeeper

Why A Non-League Club Will Play The Rest Of The Season Without A Goalkeeper

An unusual set of circumstances...

A Non-League club are experiencing the biggest goalkeeping crisis in football history for their remaining games this season.

In one of the most unfortunate scenarios ever, Biggleswade Town, who are 18th place in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier League, have seen all three of their goalkeepers pick up injuries which will prevent them from playing against this term.

Liam Gooch, signed in January, was the latest to be struck by the injury curse on Monday, joining the two other goalkeepers on the sidelines. He is poised to undergo an operation on his hand at the weekend.

What's more, the Southern Premier League have denied the club's request for an emergency goalkeeper to be drafted in - meaning they now are now faced with playing an outfielder in goal for the rest of the season. No wonder they are livid.

It's a joke, isn't it? As funny as having an outfielder in goal permanently would be, here's hoping common sense does eventually prevail and Biggleswade do eventually get themselves a new 'keeper in between the sticks.
