Nicolas Tagliafico scored a horrendous own goal to put Liverpool 1-0 up at the Johan Cruyff Arena this evening.

Sadio Mane beat a couple of defenders down the left flank and hit a scruffy cross-cum-shot across goal that Tagliafico diverted into his own net as he attempted to clear the ball with his left foot.

It was an absolute gift from the Argentine left-back but Liverpool, who were below par in the first half, won't be complaining over the manner in which they took the lead in Amsterdam.

However, given just how weak the effort was from Mane, fans struggled to work out just how Tagliafico managed to score such a bizarre own goal.

In scoring at the wrong end, the 28-year-old became the first Ajax player in ten years to score an own goal in the Champions League.

The last man before him was former Newcastle and Leeds midfielder Vurnon Anita, who put through his own net against Real Madrid in 2010.
