We challenge anyone to score a better goal than Nicolai Geertsen in 2020.

The Danish defender was on target in Lyngby's 9-0 thrashing of Slagelse at the weekend and his sensational double volleyed strike has been doing the rounds on social media.

From a corner, Geertsen displayed sublime technique to pull off an outrageous bicycle kick. His acrobatic effort cannoned off the crossbar and right back into his path.

Reacting rapidly, the 29-year-old, having been on the turf, hit a stunning and satisfying volley that directly flew into the top corner. It was almost like he played a one-two with the bar and then found the net.

His club are lobbying for him to win this year's FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal and we're well onboard with the campaign.

Reflecting on the sensational strike, Geertsen told SPORTbible: "It is for sure one of my best goals. I have another scissor kick from outside the box, that was pretty good.

"There was not a whole lot of thinking behind it. At first I was super frustrated that it didn't go in - so the second attempt was with a hint of frustration. We were ahead 6-0 so we were on a roll and the vibe on the team was really good.

"I think the video speaks for itself. We were all pretty excited. We didn't expect this much attention though. They were giving me a bit of smoke in the locker room."

Asked what it would mean to win the Puskas Award, he added: "I mean that would be awesome! It would be a great story to tell the grandchildren one day."

Geertsen's biggest threat to the Puskas award would appear to be Borussia Monchengladbach's Valentino Lazaro after he scored a ridiculous scorpion kick goal against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

Patrick Herrmann whipped a cross in from the right and side and the Austrian flung his boot into the air while falling forwards, to see the ball fly past Lukas Hradecky and make the score 4-3 in stoppage time.

Olivier Giroud won the Puskas Award in 2017 thanks to a scorpion kick he scored for Arsenal against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.
