Neymar spurned a golden opportunity to put Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 up against Atalanta in tonight's Champions League quarter final.

The Brazilian had a great chance to put away his 20th goal of the season when he displayed some electric pace to race through on goal early on in Lisbon.

But just when you thought we were going to see the first goal of the quarter finals, Neymar somehow managed to miss the target completely and rolled the ball wide of the goal.

You'd normally put very good money on the world's most expensive player finding the net on a one-on-one but the Santos youth product didn't even force second-choice goalkeeper Marco Sportiello into a save.

It was a huge miss that surprised many, including Neymar's teammate Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman was watching from the substitutes bench after recovering from a recent injury and gave a priceless reaction to the effort.

Mbappe had his hands on his head, in complete and utter disbelief that Neymar didn't open the scoring at Estadio da Luz.

The former Barcelona star got himself into another great area on the left flank shortly after but his pass for Mauro Icardi was poor. It was a trend for Neymar's first half performance, as he got himself in great positions but was extremely wasteful.

To make matters worse, Atalanta went 1-0 up in the first half after former Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic produced a superb first-time finish with his left foot.
