Newcastle United and Manchester City played out a Friday night thriller at St James' Park this evening, with Ferran Torres scoring a stunning hat-trick.

The newly-crowned Premier League champions were given a guard of honour by Steve Bruce's side prior to the game but the hosts did anything but lie down in the 4-3 defeat.

The Magpies went 1-0 up through Emil Krafth's bullet header in the 25th minute before City turned the game around with goals from Joao Cancelo and Torres, who produced a stunning acrobatic flick to begin his three-goal haul.

It was all square on the stroke of half-time when Joelinton converted a penalty after being tripped by Nathan Ake, before Newcastle were back in the lead just after the hour mark.

Arsenal loanee Joe Willock won his side a second penalty when he was fouled by Kyle Walker and though his spot-kick was saved by City debutant Scott Carson, he converted the rebound and continued his fine run of goalscoring form.

But City's response was emphatic. Torres struck twice in two minutes to collect the match ball as Pep Guardiola's side were victorious in a crazy game in the North-East.

The champions have now won a record-breaking 12 straight wins away from home and look to make it 13 with a trip to Brighton on Tuesday.
