Managers' Player of the Year awards aren't normally a thing beyond Under 16's Sunday League but Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho decided to invent his own award at United's ceremony tonight.
David De Gea picked up the Players' Player of the Year yet again after a stunning individual campaign in between the sticks, but the Portuguese boss named youngster Scott McTominay as his Player of the Year and even presented him with his own award.
The 21-year old central midfielder, now a full international with Scotland, has had a lot of faith placed into him by Mourinho, who has played him on 20 occasions this term.
Mourinho, McTominay's number one fan, felt his player needed recognising, hence the unexpected award at Tuesday's event.

The decision garnered reaction aplenty on social media:
I for one am surprised that Luke Shaw didn't get the token of appreciation from Mourinho... Clearly McTominay is to Mourinho what Darren Fletcher was to Sir Alex Ferguson back in the day.

Though it's a strange call, it could do McTominay the world of good confidence-wise.
