Michael Owen making outlandish comments go hand-in-hand, but has he taken it too far with his recent claims?

Owen making strange remarks isn't a new thing so add this to the ever growing of things Owen says. The former England international believes John Stones is the only English player, wait for it, who "could walk into the Barcelona's team". Barcelona. Spanish Champions. Multiple Champions League winners. Quite the statement considering Everton slumped to an 11th finish in the Premier League, albeit it wasn't all on him but the 22-year-old did commit a defensive blunders while under some criticism by fans and media.

The former Liverpool and Manchester United player spoke to BBC Sport, saying;

"I'm a massive John Stones fan. He's on a different level to virtually anyone else, I'd play [Chris] Smallng and Stones."

He continues to add that Stones is unfairly treated, suggesting he's neck-and-neck with Gary Cahill and Chris Smallings;

"People go so overboard on mistakes, and they associate Stones with mistakes. If I ask anyone if they could name three mistakes Stones has made this season, they couldn't. I could name five or six that [Gary] Cahill and Smalling have made. Smalling's given away a penalty, got sent-off and scored an own goal just in the last couple of weeks of the season, yet no one mentions mistakes with anyone else."

Stones is a part of Roy Hodgson's 23-man Euro squad which flies to France next week. As for Owen's comments, does he have a point or is he rambling on again? Have your say in the comments section below.
