Maxim Gullit has become the latest son of a Dutch legend to make his professional debut after following in the footsteps of his famous father, Ruud.

The 17-year old spent time in the AFC Amsterdam youth system before making the move to AZ Alkmaar's youth academy in July 2017.

The defender has predominantly played for the Under 19's team this term but made the step up to the Jong AZ Alkmaar side, aka reserves, coming off the bench in a 0-0 draw against champions FC Twente in the second tier yesterday.

His dad, a Ballon d'Or winner in 1987 who turned out for the likes PSV, AC Milan, Sampdoria and Chelsea, watched on proudly and posted a heartwarming Instagram post after seeing his son make his bow.

But Gullit Jr's footballing roots do not end there. He is also the great nephew of the one and only Johan Cruyff, a three-time Ballon d'Or winner and one of the greatest to ever play the game, in addition to being a true visionary through his philosophy at Ajax and Barcelona.

Maxim's mother, Estelle Cruyff, is the niece of Dutch icon and was married to his father Ruud until they separated in 2012.
